This nationally registered historic district developed between approximately 1853 and 1939 and encompasses 373 contributing residential buildings displaying Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Stick Style architecture with steeply pitched gabled and hipped rooflines. Homes in this area carry some of the oldest roof structures in Shelbyville, and many have been re roofed at least once with asphalt shingles over original framing. Heavy tree canopy throughout the district adds debris load and moisture retention that accelerates granule loss and can lead to moss or lichen buildup on aging shingles.
